A special national holiday is quickly approaching that celebrates the incredible bond between you and your dog! According to National Today, "in 2018, a dog person’s dating app, Dig, launched National Dog Mom’s Day for dog-loving women to thank dog moms, foster dog moms, and future dog moms for all of the love they give to pups." Make sure to allocate some time to celebrate this Dog Mom’s Day and mark your calendar for the second Saturday in May each year. This year it's being celebrated on Saturday, May 14. (Dog Dad's, don't fret. You can celebrate with the mom's or wait until June 19- I hear there's a new dog day for you, too?!)
Being a dog mom (or dad) is the absolute best job, but it's also a lot of work. Dog parents deserve some recognition for taking such incredible care of their fur-babies. Dog Mom's Day is a chance to take advantage of recognizing YOU as an incredible dog parent and all that you do to keep your pup happy, healthy, safe and loved each and everyday!
A Few Cozy Ways to Celebrate...
1. TAKE A WALK (OR A HIKE!) TOGETHER
Your dog will love the fresh air, exercise and time spent with you! Make sure to pick somewhere (a trail or sidewalk nearby) that works for both of you. You might want to pack a few snacks and water for your adventure because let's be real, a snack break is always a good idea!
2. SHARE A HOME BAKED TREAT
Love a yummy treat? Bake yourself your favorite cookies and make some easy Dough ReMia’s Doggie Dough treats for your dog or find another favorite recipe (check out our previous blogs for some ideas. Links below). If you want to make it even more special, pack a blanket and go on a picnic (even if it’s in your own backyard!) What’s cozier than lounging and snacking with your best friend?
3. PLAN A DOG-MOM PLAYDATE
Set up a playdate with your pup and other dog parents in your life. Meet at a park, your house, etc. Bring a few toys for them to play with and you can spend time with both your pup and friends at the same time. Sit outside watching your dogs frolic while you chat, sip a favorite beverage and enjoy the moment. Does it get much better?
4. CAPTURE THE MOMENT
Capture a special Dog Mom moment whether you take a selfie, use the timer feature on your phone/camera, or hire a professional photographer. You will truly appreciate looking at it down the road and seeing your special bond- It will always make you smile! Share your photo with us on Instagram using #DoughReMia .
5. SNUGGLE & CUDDLE
Snuggling with your pup always makes everything better, and Dog Mom’s Day is no exception! Take advantage of lounging on the couch or snuggling in bed for a little longer than usual. Why not watch a favorite movie together? A dog themed movie is even better: Secret Life of Pets, A Dog’s Purpose, Because of Winn Dixie, Benji, Marley and Me, Homeward Bound, Beethoven… the list goes on! Pop some popcorn and bring some treats for your pup, too. Get super cozy together!
6. GO SHOPPING!
Treat yourself to gifts for you and your furry friend at dog-friendly stores! Find neighborhood pet stores near you that allow you to bring your dog (or an outdoor Farmer's Market.) If not, you can always shop online with your furry friend under your feet. Dog + Shopping= Bliss! You can also get another special Dog Mom in your life an e-Gift Card to pick out something special to spoil their pup or themself from their favorite store.
As a way to say thank you for all you do each and everyday for your beloved dog baby, we will be offering you (& your pup) 10% OFF your order on May 14-15 only with code: DOGMOMDAY at checkout at DoughReMia.com
Obviously there are many more things that you can do to celebrate your special bond, but hopefully this gives you a starting point and a few more excuses to spend extra quality time together. And, tell everyone else: "Sorry, I can't hang out. My dog and I have plans."
